Suite à mes récentes difficultés à jouer à Gauntlet sur XBox, je suis parti à la quête d'un logiciel me permettant d'évaluer avec une certaine exactitude le ping de ma connexion. J'en suis arrivé à charger ce très bon petit programme, http://www.broadbandspeedtest.net/, qui a mis en lumière un réel problème de ping chez moi. Voici le compte-rendu complet du test que je viens d'opérer:

On remarquera notamment que mon "ping européen" est particulièrement mauvais (test 2 en particulier), alors qu'il est à peu près correct ailleurs.
Question (double): puis-je y faire quelque chose? Mon FAI (Neuf) peut-il y faire quelque chose?

Etant connecté directement à mon modem par ethernet à l'aide d'un câble de 20 mètres, j'ai refait le test en utilisant un câble bien plus court (1 mètre): résultats quasi-identiques.

Je ne sais pas si ce test est vraiment fiable à 100%, pour la simple raison que quand on envoie un ping vers une machine (et que celle-ci répond), les informations empruntent une route et que celle-ci peut varier en fonction de son état, de pannes de routeurs sur le chemin ou autre. La machine de destination du ping peut très bien être surchargée, aussi, enfin on peut imaginer à peu près n'importe quoi. C'est normal que j'ai globalement de bons résultats comparés à toi, j'ai la chance d'être à 930m de mon DSLAM et je suis chez Free (qui sont je crois les plus rapides)


Pour l'histoire du cable pas de soucis, ce n'est pas ça qui va augmenter ton ping En Ethernet on peut utiliser des cables vraiment très longs.

A mon humble avis il n'y a pas grand chose à faire pour améliorer son ping à part :
-s'assurer que sa connexion est la plus libre possible lorsqu'on la teste
-regarder la présence éventuelles d'options pour changer les corrections d'erreurs, par exemple Free propose un mode "fastpath" au lieu d'"interleave" pour améliorer un petit peu son ping, mais ça nécessite d'avoir une excellente ligne et d'être pas très loin de son DSLAM. Certains autres FAI (je ne sais pas lesquels) proposent la même chose.
-juste une idée qui me vient comme ça : as-tu rééssayé de faire le test pour comparer les résultats des 2?
edit : ben tiens, je n'avais même pas vu le "disclaimer" en début de message mais ça confirme

Merci d'avoir fait le test, Kaede. Comme précisé dans mon post initial, j'ai fait deux fois le test. Tous deux allaient dans le même sens: j'ai un ping exécrable.
Donc, le ping dépend de la distance qui sépare l'internaute du central? Ca se comprend. Ce que je comprends aussi, c'est que, de fait, je ne peux rien faire pour améliorer mon ping - à part déménager.

(Ceci étant dit, malgré mon très mauvais ping en local, tous les jeux Live - sauf Gauntlet - fonctionnent à merveille.)

Si certains d'entre vous ont des idées pour améliorer mon ping, je suis toute ouïe!

Oui désolé pour les 2 tests j'avais lu trop vite.
En fait je n'ai pas tout à fait dit qu'il y a 0 solutions, il reste les options que pourraient proposer ton FAI (dans le cas de Free, je règle ça sur leur site)

Encore une fois c'est normal que j'ai des résultats bien meilleurs que les tiens : je fais partie des plus 'chanceux'
Vraiment, je ne crois pas que ton ping soit execrable...

D'ailleurs, il me semble que tu avais déjà réussi à jouer dans des conditions décentes sur Kaillera En réseau je ne joue qu'aux émulateurs, mais sachant comme Kaillera est exigeant niveau connexion par comparaison aux jeux développés avec leur propre code réseau en natif, si tu as réussi à y jouer dans des conditions décentes, je pense que ta connexion n'a pas vraiment de problème
Peut-être que le code réseau de Gauntlet est un peu moins bon que pour les autres jeux? Tu n'es peut-être pas le seul à avoir des problèmes avec ce jeu.

Merci encore pour ton aide, Kaede.
Je vais tenter de me rapprocher du Neuf pour voir ce qu'ils ont à dire sur ce ping, certes pas exécrable, mais suffisamment pour me poser de réels problèmes de gameplay dans Gauntlet.
Tu as très bonne mémoire: j'ai effectivement joué un tout petit peu sur Kaillera, et mes parties avaient été très bonnes.
Sans doute le code réseau de Gauntlet Live est-il, comme certains forumeurs me l'avaient déjà dit, mauvais. Mais alors je ne comprends pas pourquoi je n'ai jamais lu la moindre remarque sur le lag de ce jeu, sur quelque forum que ce soit...

Pourquoi, tu veux te mettre à Kaillera David ? Ca serait bien qu'on se fasse quelques sessions, maintenant que Kaede m'a montré comment ça fonctionne.

D'ailleurs une question : peut-on jouer à plus de deux sur Kaillera ? Genre Mercs (à trois) ou les beat'em ll à 4, c'est possible. Si oui, il faudra qu'on essaye.

Pour répondre à ta question, Lyle :
On peut jouer à plus de 3, il n'y a aucune manip à faire.
On peut aussi être par exemple à 3 dans une partie d'un jeu à 2 joueur, et jouer à tour de rôle en faisant permuter les commandes (touche F5), par exemple en laissant la place au joueur spectateur une fois qu'on on a joué un crédit.

Je constate que, en gros, le test no2 est celui qui pose le plus de problèmes chez tout le monde - ce qui me fait penser que cette partie du test manque de fiabilité, car trop exigente au niveau des pings attendus.

Ce qui explique encore moins pourquoi Gauntlet rame à ce point chez moi, et pas chez vous.
